Teaching HCI to make it come alive
نویسنده
چکیده
We review how to teach effectively in higher education (covering both the literature and the author’s own opinions), with particular reference to HCI and using real life-and-death examples, based on simple medical design issues. Students are motivated because even elementary HCI knowledge empowers them to make a real and significant difference in the world. “When I see how much education can be reformed, I have hope that society may be reformed.” Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz “The main part of intellectual education is not the acquisition of facts but learning how to make facts live.” Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

متن کاملChallenges for Master Programs on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI): experience report of the M2IHM
There are an increasing number of undergraduate programs in Computer Science that now includes teaching of HumanComputer Interaction (HCI). The occurrence of HCI courses in undergraduate programs is essential to present concepts (e.g. usability, accessibility, User eXperience) and techniques (e.g. prototyping, user interface evaluation) necessary for designing and developing user-centered inter...
متن کاملThe end of cognition?
The papers that make up this special issue of Human Technology have been elicited as a response to the growing interest in user experience and second-wave HCI (human–computer interaction), also known as post-cognitivist HCI. User experience, in particular, has shifted the focus of research interest away from cognition per se to, for example, affect (e.g., Norman, 2004); fun (e.g., Blythe, Monk,...

For this purpose, the Holiday Climate Index (HCI), which has been designed based on daily climate information, was used. The results showed t...
متن کاملHCI: whose job is it anyway?
A panel of experts on human computer interaction (HCI) argues about who is best placed to ‘own’ HCI and the user centred design process, The experts come from a range of private and public sector organisations, both large (like Microsoft and the NHS) and small (System Concepts). The format of the panel will be loosely based on the popular radio and TV panel game “Whose line is it anyway?”
